Almadira

by Giulia Albini

Botto x Giulia Albini

Almadira is a tiny, newly created world for producing knitted garments with high storytelling impact. A knitwear project, a small example of circularity, where what was waste becomes essence. Fine yarns, wool, cashmere, silk or linen blends, recovered by the Botto Giuseppe warehouse, carefully reassembled and reworked: threads woven once again into clothes that tell of authentic beauty. The outfits are four, all inspired by Alpine Bauhaus: geometry in motion. Volumes with bold proportions and minimal silhouettes, with well-defined structures and softer, enveloping lines.

The colour palette recalls mountain scenery and its vintage aesthetics: shades of pink and brown, icy hues and warm beiges. The result is knitwear with big visual and tactile impact, a combination of experimentation and tradition. Movement, art, and nature come together.

Giulia Albini

She graduated in knitwear design convinced that it is the material itself that guides the project. She took part in competitions and showed at Pitti Filati 2019, following through an idea of knitwear that partners technological research with expressivity. She worked as a designer for The Modern Artisan, an initiative promoted by King Charles of England that fosters sustainability, where craftsmanship dialogues with the future. Then she completed a Master’s in Marketing at Bocconi University, to lend structure and strategic vision to her creative thinking. After two years as digital editor with Prada, she joined Acqua di Parma as product manager. Here, she is involved with the creative and strategic development of projects, with special focus on collaboration with other designers and artistic craftsmanship.

Almadira (There where the undertow crashes)

An homage to the sea of my Riccione. In Riccione dialect, Almadira means the line of flotsam that forms on the shoreline as the tide goes out. Shells, wood, plastic, seaweed. A real “Riccionese” knows that they do not descend from monkeys but from flotsam. Debris, but artfully and harmoniously created by the sea! The sea then laid it carefully on the shore, gently and lovingly. Rubbish, yes, but rubbish beloved and adored by the sea.
